Early Morning Hempstead Robber Found and Arrested

Hempstead, NY - September 8, 2014 - According to detectives, on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 Byron C. Baine III, 24, of 50 Covert Street approached a male victim, 38, while he was sitting alone in the passenger seat of a car which was parked at South Franklin Street and Elm Avenue in Hempstead.  He displayed a handgun and made the victim exit the vehicle before demanding his cell phone and debit card.  The defendant proceeded to take the victims vehicle and flee the scene.  No injuries were reported.

Baine was located and arrested on Monday, September 08, 2014 by Third Squad detectives and Hempstead Police Officers at his home where he was placed under arrest without incident.  A further investigation revealed he had violated an order of protection by being at that location.  He is charged with two counts of Robbery 1st degree, Robbery 2nd degree, Criminal use of a firearm 2nd degree and Criminal Contempt 2nd degree.  He will be arraigned on Monday, September 8, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
