Queens, NY - September 6th, 2013 -For the first time, Long Islanders can quickly reach LaGuardia Airport without a car thanks to MTA Bus service offering a 12 minute ride to the airport from the LIRR’s Woodside Station.
MTA Bus will operate the new “Q70 Limited” along a specially designed route that promises to get customers to LaGuardia in 10-12 minutes at the cost of $2.50 a ride. Now, customers on any of the Long Island Rail Road’s 11 branches can get to LaGuardia via train and bus. Many LIRR trains make Woodside as a regular stop. If not, customers can change at Jamaica for a train to Woodside.

LIRR President Helena Williams said: “The new MTA bus route from the LIRR’s Woodside Station to LaGuardia Airport provides a great option for Long Islanders and New York City residents heading to the airport. This train-bus connection will allow for a convenient and inexpensive mass transit route to LaGuardia.”
The Q70 Limited will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and on a 12-minute frequency most of the day. It will operate with 15 and 20-minute headways during early morning and late evening periods; and 30 minute headways during overnight periods, according to MTA Bus.
LIRR Can Get You to All Four Area Airports
With the new LaGuardia connection, the LIRR is now bringing Long Islanders to all four of the metropolitan area’s major airports via mass transit. To John F. Kennedy International Airport, take the LIRR to Jamaica Station and switch for the Port Authority Air Train to Kennedy. If Islip’s MacArthur Airport is the destination, then the LIRR to Ronkonkoma Station is the way to go. To Newark Liberty International Airport, take the LIRR to Penn Station and transfer to New Jersey Transit.
The Q70 Limited will also serve the Woodside -61st Street 7 subway station located above the LIRR station and make one stop at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue hub where it connects with 7EFMR subway service. Then the Q70 travels non-stop to LaGuardia Airport via express lanes on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and Grand Central Parkway.
The Q70 Limited is designed to provide an attractive service for airport passengers and workers by reducing travel time and establishing new regional connections via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and 7 train at Woodside. It will be an attractive alternative for Manhattan and Queens residents whether they get to Woodside via the LIRR or the subway.
At the airport, the Q70 Limited will serve all central airport terminals and connections are available to the Marine Air Terminal (Terminal A).
The MTA has been working closely with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to analyze transit access alternatives to LaGuardia Airport.
