Suffolk County Executive Bellone Announces Appointments To The Long Island Regional Planning Council
Suffolk County, NY - Sept. 5, 2018 - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced two new appointments to the Long Island Regional Planning Council (LIRPC). County Executive Bellone nominated Town of Smithtown Supervisor Edward Wehrheim and Jeffrey Guillot to serve on the Council, and both nominations were approved by the Suffolk County Legislature by a vote of 17-0.
“Suffolk County is working towards a vision that keeps our region competitive and attracts the high-skill, high knowledge workers we need to grow our economy” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. “I am proud to be able to nominate Supervisor Wehrheim and Jeff Guillot, who I know share in our vision of a comprehensive regional development strategy to ensure long-term economic growth. Both Jeff and Ed will serve as a catalyst for change and be a great addition to the Council.”

According to the Long Island Regional Planning Council (LIRPC), their mission is to represent the various interests and needs of all Long Islander by seeking to build productive linkages between communities, provide focus on issues best handled on a broad geographic scale and foster the development of regional comprehensive planning. The LIRPC conducts research, surveys and studies which address regional economic, environmental and social needs, along with issues and opportunities facing Long Island. The LIRPC focuses on Long Island’s economy, equity, tax and governance, environment and infrastructure. The LIRPC works collectively with all stakeholders to successfully develop Long Island and ensure the long term vitality and viability of our region.
Before becoming the Supervisor for the Town of Smithtown this year, Supervisor Ed Wehrheim previously represented the residents of the Town of Smithtown as a member of the Smithtown Town Board where he was first elected to the Town Council in 2003. In totality, Supervisor Wehrheim has over 40 years of experience in government and is a lifelong resident of Smithtown.
Jeff Guillot currently serves as a founding partner for Millennial Strategies, LLC, a political consulting firm with a number of clients throughout the Northeast region. In this role, Jeff focuses on development, communications, and public policy. He brings with him years of campaign experience and legislative experience to the Long Island Regional Planning Council.
