NCPD: Uniondale Man Charged with DWI After Drinking and Driving with Kids, Aged 12 and 6, in Vehicle

James St Clair, 40, was discovered twith the odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and glassy eyes during a traffic stop, cops say.

The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Uniondale man for DWI-Leandra’s Law in Uniondale.
 
According to police, while on routine patrol officers observed James St Clair, 40, operating a 1996 Honda Accord. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Brookside Avenue and failed to signal at the intersection of Pine Street. The officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. 
 
During the investigation it was discovered that the defendant emitted the odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and glassy eyes. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. The defendants 12 year old daughter and 6 year old son were in the back seat of the vehicle. The children were released to their mother who was the front seat passenger. No injuries were reported.
 
The defendant James St Clair is charged with two (2) counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16- Leandra’s Law), five (5) counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation/Alcohol or Drugs, two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, two (2) counts of Driving While Intoxicated, Operating Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Driver and numerous VTL infractions. He was arraigned at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
