Melville Woman Arrested for Driving Drunk with Toddler Daughter in Vehicle, Cops Say

The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Melville woman for DWI- Leandra’s Law that occurred in Merrick.
 
According to Police, officers responded to the vicinity of Merrick Road and Clubhouse Road for an unresponsive female in the driver’s seat of her 2016 Nissan Altima. As officer’s began their investigation, the defendant, Stephanie Quinones, 29, was observed having slurred speech, glassy bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. The defendant’s 23 month old female child was in the car at the time. The defendant was taken into custody. The child was released to a family member.
 
Defendant Stephanie Quinones is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child Under 16- Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. She will be arraigned when medically practical.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
