On September 2, 2019, at approximately 3:28 am, troopers responded to a report of an overturned vehicle on the northbound Wantagh State Parkway to the Northern State Parkway eastbound ramp. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a 2000 Honda Accord overturned in the woods with the driver and sole passenger deceased at the scene. 

 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda exited the roadway at a high rate of speed, struck a guard rail, became airborne and then struck a light pole and large tree. Identification of the victims are being withheld pending notification to their next of kin.

 

The New York State Police is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this collision contact State Police Troop "L" Headquarters at (631) 756-3300. All calls will remain confidential.
