Ice Cream Chick Now Serving In Huntington

Written by Lon Cohen  |  02. September 2021

A new ice cream place has opened in Huntington, and while the owner is stepping out on her own, she has globs of ice cream parlor experience behind her.

According to a story on Huntington Patch, owner Christine Cairo worked at Krisch's in Massapequa for years before she thought of starting her own shop.

“Cairo's brother owns Krisch's, and she received an offer to make the Huntington storefront a Krisch's satellite,” the story says. “Her husband, Paul Cairo, also said she could share the name Strong Island Ice Cream — the parlor he founded in Nesconset. However, Christine declined and opted to fly solo instead.”

The Ice Cream Chick occupies the same site where Herrell's Ice Cream used to be but closed this June after 13 years in business, according to a story in Greater Huntington.

Flavors at The Ice Cream Chick include all your standard faves and some other unique concoctions like Nutella, Rainbow Cookie, Burgundy Cherry, and Fluffernutter.

A page on the Ice Cream Chick website introduces Cairo to her new patrons.

“I am so happy to meet my new customers and can't wait for the journey ahead with my small business,” she writes. “All of the ice cream is homemade on site with only the most premium ingredients. We serve hard ice cream, soft serve, milkshakes, floats, sundaes, and ice cream challenges like you've never seen before!”

According to Patch, one of those challenges comes from Cairo’s time at Krisch's.

Called the "kitchen sink" challenge, the sundae features ten scoops of ice cream, two toppings, waffle wedges, bananas, whipped cream, sprinkles and cherries. The cost is $49.99, but if you eat the whole thing within an hour, it’s free!

Challenge accepted!
