Woman Arrested for DWI with 2-Year-Old Child in Vehicle

Shirley, NY - August 31, 2014 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Mastic Beach woman for driving while intoxicated with a 2-year-old boy in her car early this morning.
 
Seventh Precinct officers were conducting a checkpoint on the ramp of eastbound Sunrise Highway at exit 58 south in Shirley when Julieann Klopfer was stopped at the checkpoint and evaluated. Klopfer was found to be intoxicated and her fiancé’s son was in the backseat of her vehicle, a 1998 Mercedes.
 
Klopfer, 33, of 79 Cypress Dr., was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Klopfer will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.
 
Seven other drivers were issued traffic summonses at the checkpoint.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
