Couple Stole Bicyclist's Wallet After Striking Him With Vehicle, Cops Say

Plainview, NY - August 30, 2018 - Second Squad detectives report the arrests of a Syosset man and a Plainview woman for a Robbery that occurred on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 4:17 pm in Plainview.
 
According to detectives, patrol officers responded to 911 call for a robbery that just occurred in the vicinity of Lindsay Street and Sally Lane. The male victim, 29, was riding his bicycle eastbound on Sally Lane and was struck by a 2011 Hyundai Sonata traveling in the same direction. The victim was knocked off the bicycle and his wallet fell out of his pocket, landing on the ground. The male operator exited the vehicle, picked up the victim’s wallet and removed an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. The operator and female passenger entered the vehicle and fled westbound on Sally Lane.
 
A short time later, Dion Jude Hutchings, 23, and Summer Sassone, 21, were arrested without incident.
 
Defendant Hutchings is charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Criminal possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, three (3) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree.
 
Defendant Sassone is charged with Robbery 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. They will both be arraigned Thursday, August 30, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
