Cold Spring Harbor, NY - August 30, 2016 - The Cold Spring Harbor man alleged to have murdered his mother after the two argued about his not taking his medication pleaded not guilty at his arraignment to one charge of murder in the second degree, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

The charge in the indictment states Denis D. Cullen Jr. is accused of murder in the second degree and that Cullen “on or about August 17, 2016, in Suffolk County with intent to cause the death of another person, caused her death by neck compression and immersion in water.”

Cullen told police in a recorded statement that he argued with his mother over him not taking his medication and he drowned her in their backyard swimming pool.

Judge Stephen Braslow remanded Cullen, 23, to the county jail without bail.  A court conference is planned for September 28.
