September marks the end of the summer, and there are a variety of exciting events and festive things to do to help you make the best of your last days of summer. Students will be heading back to school and the cooler weather will soon be hitting us. Don’t let this stop you from enjoying what the season still has to offer.

As Long Island transitions from the sizzling summer to the refreshing fall, the seasons aren’t the only things changing. September is filled with plenty of crisp colors, which mark the beginning of autumn. Leaves start to transform to a variety of colors while some begin to fall as we enter the most colorful season of the year here on LI.

September kicks off with a weekend packed with Labor Day Celebrations with festivities and activities to celebrate the prosperity of our country. Festivals

  • 34th Annual Grande Festa Italiana at North Hempstead Beach Park FREE
    175 West Shore Road, Port Washington, NY 11050
    Wednesday, September 4th - Sunday, September 8th


    The largest and oldest feast on Long Island will feature live entertainment, games, rides and plenty of food! Fees apply for rides, food, and games. There will be a fireworks display on Sunday at 9:30 pm. All proceeds will be donated to charity. The feast will be open Wednesday through Friday - 6 pm to 11 pm, Saturday - 2 pm to 11 pm and Sunday - 1:30 pm to 11 pm.  
  • Grateful Fest at the Vanderbilt Museum
    180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, NY 11721
    Sunday, September 8th - 12 pm to 7 pm


    This musical festival features Half Step, The Electrix, Unbroken Chain and Reflections along with 50 Artists painting to the inspiration of the live music, scenic vistas, and audience interaction. Food and beverages will be available. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for children 12 and under. Come rain or shine!
     
  • 18th Annual East Northport Festival at John Walsh Park FREE
    Corner of Larkfield Rd and Pulaski Rd, East Northport, NY 11731

    Come to the East Northport Festival for three days of rides, food, games, vendors and other amusements! The festival will be open Friday - 6 pm to 11 pm, Saturday - 11 am to 11 pm and Sunday - 11 am to 6 pm.
  • Bayville Waterside Festival at Ransom Beach FREE
    Bayville Avenue, Bayville, NY 11709
    Saturday, September 14th - Sunday, September 15th


    Join Bayville for their annual waterside festival at Ransom Beach featuring craft and gift vendors, offering unique gifts, handmade jewelry, one of a kind gift items and more. There will also be live music, childrens inflatable attractions, food & beverages! Free parking & admission.
  • 6th Annual Long Island Family Festival at Tanner Park in Copiague FREE

    Friday, September 13th - Sunday, September 15th


    Enjoy exciting, live musical entertainment, fun events, win some prizes and have fun at the carnival! There will also be plenty of food along with a pizza eating contest. The festival is open Friday - 6 pm to 10 pm, Saturday - 11 am to 10 pm and Sunday - 11 am to 8 pm.
  • 24th Annual Greenport Maritime Festival in Greenport Village FREE

    Friday, September 20th - Sunday, September 22nd


    This weekend festival kicks off with the arrival of the Tall Ships on Friday. Visitors can tour these marvelous vessels throughout the weekend. From an old fashioned hometown parade, to family-friendly Pirate Show and crafts, to wonderful shopping provided by local merchants and visiting artisan/craft vendors, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
  • 22nd Annual Merrick Street Festival FREE

    Saturday, September 28th and Sunday, September 29th - 10 am to 6 pm


    Stop by and interact with other consumers and vendors who will be selling their unique items. From crafts to gifts, vendors will be offering their goods for affordable prices. Many vendors are accepting credit cards.
  • Bellmore Street Festival FREE
    Bedford Avenue, Bellmore, NY 11710
    Thursday, September 19th through Sunday, September 22nd - 6 pm


    Come out and enjoy over 107 exhibits, attractions, fun rides for the children, animal exhibits, live entertainment, sports expo, home expo, an auto show, a petting zoo, character parade, EMS and police demos and over 150 hand crafted vendors. Rain date is October 20th and 21st.
  • Fall Festival on Lake Ronkonkoma FREE
    Lake Shore Road, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779
    Saturday, September 28th - 10 am to 4 pm


    Join in on the fun for all on the lake with food, shopping, games, rides, petting zoo, entertainment, fishing clinic and much more. Rain date is Sunday, September 29th.

  • Long Beach Street Fair

    Saturday, September 7th and Sunday, September 8th - 10 am to 6 pm


    The Long Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting this super street fair between Long Beach Boulevard and Riverside Road featuring vendors, music, games, food, and inflatable rides.
  • East Rockaway Street Fair FREE
    Atlantic Street to Front Street, East Rockaway, NY 11518

    Sunday, September 8th - 11 am to 6 pm

    The East Rockaway street fair will be held on Main Street with various vendors with unique items, entertainment for kids and adults and food. Come rain or shine!
  • 23rd Annual Nesconset Street Fair FREE

    Sunday, September 8th - 10 am to 5 pm


    The Nesconset Day Fair will feature a bunch of great vendors with unique items and live entertainment at the gazebo for everyone to enjoy!  
  • 14th Annual Syosset Street Fair FREE

    This street fair is a unique destination where consumers can interact and buy directly from the source. Emerging and established artisans and high quality craft, gift and service vendors offer their goods at affordable prices. Many vendors accept credit cards.
  • Williston Day Street Fair FREE

    Sunday, September 15th - 11 am to 5 pm


    Come to Williston Park to enjoy the day with over 150 outside vendors, a DJ, rock & roll bands, classic corvette cars, karate demonstrations, dancers, face painting, free giveaways, a hoola hoop contest, rides for the children plus food, food and more food! Rain date is Sunday, September 22nd.
  • Huntington Fall Fair at the United Methodist Church

    Saturday, September 21st - 10 am to 4 pm


    This fall fair is benefiting local charities and will include furniture, electronics, household items, cheese, produce, baked goods, jewelry, children's clothing, books, toys, movies, music, flowers, silent auction (starting at 11 am) and lunch. FREE ADMISSION.
  • 18th Annual New Hyde Park Street Fair at the Village of New Hyde Park
    Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park, NY 11042
    Saturday, September 21st - 10 am to 4:30 pm


    Shop at the many vendors along the street in the village with a variety of items including handmade dolls, decorative wood signs, handcrafted jewelry and more! Rain date is September 28th.
  • Garden City South Street Fair FREE

    Sunday, September 22nd - 10 am to 5 pm


    Enjoy delicious food, live entertainment and lots of great vendors with unique items. Come rain or shine!
  • Queens County Fair at Queens County Farm Museum

    Saturday, September 21st - Sunday, September 22nd - 11 am to 6 pm


    Come to the 31st Annual Queens County Fair with blue ribbon competitions in livestock, produce, home crafts, arts and crafts, and more. Enjoy the Amazing Maize Maze, visit the Con Edison Ecology Booth where you can adopt-a-worm for your home compost bin, get great planting tips, recycling ideas, and free crafts for kids, pie-eating and corn-husking contests, lumberjack shows, pig-racing, hayrides and carnival rides.
  • Long Island Fair at Old Bethpage Village Restoration

    Friday, September 20th through Sunday, September 29th - 10 am - 5 pm


    Spend the day with the family and friends at the Long Island Fair for Prize-winning vegetables, flowers, crafts, farm animals, brass band concerts, traditional music, wagon rides, pony rides and more! $10 for general admission, $8 for children 5-12 and seniors.
  • Fall Fair at Episcopal Church of St. Margaret FREE

    At this fall fair, you will find quality vendors, crafts, fabulous flea market finds, kids' games and face painting, baked goods, premium raffle gift baskets, generous raffle prizes from community businesses, plus three fabulous Grand Prizes. Special exhibition by the Long Island Ship Model Society. Rain date is Sunday, September 29th.
  • West Hempstead Street Fair FREE

    The West Hempstead Chamber of Commerce presents their street fair  featuring a bunch of vendors with different items, live entertainment and fun for the kids and adults too. Come rain or shine!

Exclusive Kids Events

  • 8th Annual Family Fun Day and Picnic at Southaven County Park
    Victory Avenue, Brookhaven, NY 11719

    Saturday, September 7th - 11 am to 5 pm

    Contractors for Kids presents a day filled with a petting zoo, pig races, pie eating contest, rides, games and live music! $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
  • 37th Annual West Islip Country Fair at West Islip Library
    3 Higbie Lane, West Islip, NY 1179
    Sunday, September 22nd - 11 am to 5 pm


    Bring the family and kids to enjoy the children's bounce house and slide, petting zoo, magician, face painting and sand art. There will also be a variety of food including Italian, Polish, Mexican, ice cream, french fries, sweet potatoes, funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers and more! Rain date is Sunday, September 29th.


Seasonal Activities

  • 12th Annual Oktoberfest at Martha Clara Vineyards
    6025 Sound Ave, Riverhead, NY 11901
    Saturday, September 7th - Sunday, September 8th - 1 pm to 5 pm


    Come out to the Martha Clara Vineyards for Oktoberfest and enjoy the company of others and entertain yourself with drinks and food. Tickets are $12.50 from now until September 1st. Tickets will be $15 after September 1st. See event listing for more details.
  • Pickle Festival at the John Gardiner Farm
    900 Park Avenue, Greenlawn, NY 11740
    Saturday, September 21st - 11 am to 4 pm


    The Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association's festival features speciality pickles, jams, jellies, farm-grown vegetables, baked goods, lollipop farm train, corn maze, hay rides and other family activities. Come rain or shine!
  • Apple Picking
    The season for apple picking is approaching! Check out some local farms that let you pick your own apples from different shapes, sizes, colors, and tastes!
  • Hiking
    Long Island may seem like a flat piece of land but there are many spots where the terrain is perfect for an adventure in nature.

Farmers Market
With numerous of Farmers Markets around Long Island, be sure to check out what local markets are happening near you to stock up on some fall fruits and a variety of vegetables. Make your own pies and delicious desserts from scratch using the cheap prices of produce.
