Frequency Electronics Delivers Timing Device for Satellite

Written by Claude Solnik  |  29. August 2019

Mitchel Field-based Frequency Electronics has delivered its fourth piece of precise timing equipment to Northrop Grumman for use in a satellite designed to remain positioned over the same place on earth.

The firm said it provided what it called “wide area augmentation system timing and frequency conversion systems” to Northrop Grumman, a subcontractor on the earth orbit satellite  or GEO 7.

The satellite is considered geostationary, which means it remains over a fixed point compared to the earth’s surface.

These systems, which will help provide precise navigation information to aircraft, are scheduled to be launched in 2020 aboard the Intelsat Galaxy 30 satellite.

The technology is a navigation aid developed by the Federal Aviation Administration in addition to global positioning systems.

Frequency said this “enables precision” for aircraft “in all weather, critical for safe and efficient operations in the U.S. airspace system.”
