Huntington, NY - August 29, 2017 - Congressman Tom Suozzi, today announced that he will provide donation boxes in his two district offices as well as his political office so that his constituents can drop off items that will be sent to Texas to help the thousands of families that have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey.

South and Southeast Texas has been dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey after it made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on Friday night in Rockport, Texas. Houston, the fourth-largest city in the US, and surrounding areas have faced catastrophic flooding, causing thousands of families to be displaced. On Monday night Harvey moved back into the Gulf of Mexico where it's gaining strength and is expected to make landfall again in the Houston area in the coming days.

Suozzi also announced that he will support any efforts by the federal government to provide federal aid to the people of Texas.

"New Yorkers know firsthand the devastation a natural disaster can bring. Our neighbors in Texas are dealing with aftermath and destruction of Hurricane Harvey and we will be there for them," said Suozzi. "This is what America and public service is all about. I will support the federal government doing whatever is needed to help our friends in Texas."

The City of Long Beach, which suffered similar devastation after Superstorm Sandy in 2012, has established a donation center for the next two weeks to collect items. Long Beach Councilman Scott J. Mandel launched the effort and the Long Beach Auxiliary Police Department & City of Long Beach Fire Department will be accepting donations for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

"Here in Long Beach we know the devastation a storm can bring, and we know how critical it was for so many agencies and kind people from across the country to come to our aid and that's why we are again paying it forward," said Jack Schnirman, Long Beach City Manager.

Residents of the Third Congressional District can drop off items at Suozzi's Huntington and Queens offices and they will be delivered to Long Beach to be included in the packages that will be sent to Texas.
