Man Arrested at Seafood Festival for Larcenies and Possession of Stolen Property

August 26, 2013 - West Sayville, NY - Suffolk County Police have arrested an East Islip man that was attempting to break into vehicles at a Seafood Festival in West Sayville yesterday.

Seventh Precinct Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) officer James O’Callaghan was assigned to the festival being held at the West Sayville Fire Department when he noticed a man attempting to break in to vehicles at approximately 4:55 p.m.   Officer O’Callaghan arrested Nicholas Montalbano, 20, of Deer Run, East Islip, in the parking lot located at 80 Main St.   Electronic devices, credit cards, marijuana, controlled substances and a switchblade knife were found in Montalbano’s possession.

Further investigations by Fifth Squad detectives and Fifth Precinct Crime Section officers revealed the items recovered were stolen from vehicles in Bayport, Bohemia, Sayville and Montauk.

Montalbano was charged with one count of Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, one count of Grand Larceny 4th Degree, two counts of Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

Montalbano is being held at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 27.
