MTA Police and Nassau County Police Arrest Man in Connection with Deadly Assault at Bellmore LIRR Station

Bellmore, NY - August 24th, 2013 - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that the MTA Police Department and the Nassau County Police Department, through a joint investigation, have arrested a 34-year-old Roosevelt, N.Y., man for his role in an assault at the Bellmore LIRR Station that led to the death of a 49-year-old Freeport man.

The initial call to police 911 operators at 4:50 a.m. today reported that a man had fallen from station platform onto the track area after possibly suffering a seizure. However, it was learned through investigation that a verbal dispute turned into a physical altercation at the station.
 
The Nassau County and MTA Police Departments are continuing to investigate this incident, which did not involve any trains.
 
“This is a great example of the outstanding working relationship the two agencies share which led to the expeditious arrest of a Homicide Suspect,” said Inspector Joseph Martelli Commanding Officer of the MTAPD Detective Division.
 
The suspect is identified as Niheim Levy of 58 Bennett Avenue, Roosevelt, N.Y., and is being charged with felony murder and robbery in the first degree for his role in this event. 
 
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to family members.
