83 Year-Old Moped Rider Seriously Injured After Struck by BMW, Police Report

NCPD are investigating a Vehicular Accident that occurred in Westbury.

Westbury, NY - August 21, 2018 - The Third Squad is investigating a Serious Vehicular Accident that occurred in Westbury on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 11:35 am.
 
According to detectives, an 83 year old male was riding a moped southbound on the bicycle path which is located on the east side of Merrick Avenue. A 55 year old male who was operating a 2007 BMW south on Merrick Avenue struck the moped and its driver as he turned left onto Park Boulevard which is the entrance way to Eisenhower Park. 
 
The moped operator was ejected off his moped and landed face down on the pavement. He suffered severe head trauma and was transported in a Nassau Police Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. He is listed in critical condition. 
 
The driver for the BMW suffered no injuries. The moped was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is ongoing.
