NCPD Investigating Manorhaven Boat Explosion

Update - August 20, 2014 - The Homicide Squad has identified the deceased from the above fire as Robert J. Hogan, 74 of Port Washington. The investigation is ongoing.

Original Release - Manorhaven, NY - August 21st, 2014 - Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred in Manorhaven on Wednesday, 08/20/14 at 2:48 P.M.

According to detectives, two male occupants along with two male employees were fueling a 33 foot Carver motor boat, when an explosion occurred, setting the boat and the dock on fire.  One male victim, who was hurled into the water due to the explosion, sustained fatal injuries.  A third male employee came running to their aid and managed to push the boat away from the dock, setting it adrift. This victim suffered burns on his arms and face and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  The boat then drifted to a nearby dock, setting it on fire and causing damage to two additional boats.  Third Precinct police officers, Marine Bureau, Arson/Bomb Squad and Port Washington Police and Fire Departments also responded to the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
