New LIRR Train Schedules Start on September 2nd, 2014

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  20. August 2014

Long Island, NY - August 20th, 2014 - New MTA Long Island Rail Road timetables are going into effect Tuesday, September 2, 2014.

The new train schedules for the LIRR’s 11 branches will be in effect through Sunday, November 16 and reflect the LIRR’s commitment to keep its infrastructure in good repair. Some of the changes have been made to accommodate new and ongoing construction projects and track repair programs.

Work includes track surfacing on the Babylon branch which will result in one of two tracks between Valley Stream and Rockville Centre to be taken out of service overnight on weeknights.

Buses will replace midday trains between Ronkonkoma and Greenport to accommodate grade crossing renewal work and tie replacement between Ronkonkoma and Greenport.
One of two main tracks will be out of service on weekends as work begins on the West Portal just east of Atlantic Terminal. Four trains on the Far Rockaway and Hempstead branches will be affected.

Also reflected in the new timetables is our traditional extra service for events at Barclays Center between Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica, special Belmont Park service, and Mets-Willets Point stops during the New York Mets fall season.
