East Moriches, NY - August 14, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a person in East Moriches last night.

A person was driving a 2011 Jeep Liberty, westbound on Montauk Highway when they crossed over the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and collided with a man driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck at approximately 8:40 p.m. The Jeep ignited into flames and could not be separated from the Ford. The driver of the 2011 Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The victim has not been identified.

Dylan Hughes, 24, of East Moriches and his 6-month-old daughter were able to escape his vehicle and were both transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. The daughter was not injured and Hughes suffered minor injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
