Pregnant Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

August 17, 2013 - Melville - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pregnant pedestrian in Melville this afternoon.

Anika Vorndamme-Cajigal was standing near her car in the parking lot of White Post Farms, located at 250 Old Country Road, when she was struck by a 2004 Honda that was backing out of a parking spot. The foot of the Honda’s driver, Edward Henselder, slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal, and the Honda struck Vorndamme-Cajigal and five parked vehicles.

Vorndamme-Cajigal, 37, of 128 Venetian Blvd, Lindenhurst, who is six months pregnant, was transported by Melville Rescue to Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, including two pelvic fractures. Henselder, 79, of 6 Johnsfield Court, Melville, was not injured.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
