Three Islip Beaches Closed for High Bacterial Levels

The Town of Islip has issued the following statement.

Update - August 19, 2014 - The closure issued for Amityville Beach has been lifted, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.
 
Update - 11:45 PM - The beach closures issued for Sayville Marina Park Beach in Sayville, Bayport Beach in Bayport, and Benjamins Beach in Bay Shore have been lifted, as results of recent samples collected show the water quality to be within acceptable levels.
 
Amityville Village Beach is closed to bathing due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria.
 
According to Commissioner of Health James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, immersion in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
 
Original Release - Islip, NY - August 18, 2014 - As of now, please be advised that the following beaches are closed due to high bacteria levels:
 
Bayport Beach 
Benji Beach
Sayville Marina Park 
 
All Town of Islip beaches are being tested this morning. Please keep checking the Town of Islip website for additional closures and re-openings.
