Fatal Accident in Port Washington

Port Washington, NY - August 16, 2014 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred at 11:57pm on August 15, 2014 in Port Washington.
 
According to Detectives, the deceased victim was walking across Main Street east of South Bayles Avenue from the north to the south side.  As the victim crossed in the east bound lane he was struck by a dark colored vehicle. The victim, Donald Mooney, 49, of Lynbrook was transported to North Shore University Hospital for treatment of severe head and body trauma. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced by Dr. Des at 4:23am. 
 
The subject vehicle left the scene and was observed and stopped by New York City Police Officers at Braddock Avenue and Winchester Boulevard in Queens at 12:45am.  The vehicle, a black colored 2010 Ford Fusion had windshield and front end damage.  The Officers investigation led to Port Washington Police Officers responding to that location and arresting defendant Cosmin V. Florea, 34, of 2703 Milburn Avenue Baldwin.  The defendant was transported back to Nassau County Police Headquarters for arrest processing.  The defendant’s vehicle was impounded for testing.
 
Defendant Cosmin V. Florea is charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Leaving the Scene of a Fatality and Driving While Intoxicated.  He will be arraigned on August 17, 2014 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead
