Suffolk DA: Patchogue Man Found Guilty Of Rape And Sexual Abuse Of An Eight Year Old Female

A jury in Riverhead has convicted Maximo Vera, a 38 year old Patchogue man, of rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse and child endangerment.

Suffolk County, NY - August 16, 2017 - A jury in Riverhead today convicted a 38 year old Patchogue man of rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse and one count of child endangerment, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
 
Maximo Vera sexually abused and raped an eight year old female from the winter of 2014 until June of 2015. The investigation began after the victim told her fifth grade teacher about her encounters with the defendant. Vera was arrested on September 21, 2016.
 
“Vera preyed on this young girl robbing her of her innocence,” DA Spota said. “This defendant will be incarcerated and off the streets for a lengthy period of time.”
 
Vera’s trial started July 31 in Riverhead. He was found guilty this afternoon of four charges in the indictment; Rape in the first degree, Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree, Sexual Abuse in the first degree and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
 
The defendant was remanded and certified a sex offender. Judge Barbara Kahn will sentence Vera on September 29. District Attorney Spota said this office will recommend  a sentence of 25 years in an upstate correctional facility.
