NCPD Investigating Fatal Auto Accident Involving 85 Year-Old Pedestrian

Homicide Squad Detectives are investigating a Fatal Auto Accident that occurred in West Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, a 2012 Toyota Yaris while traveling northbound on Hempstead Avenue struck a pedestrian who crossing the street from the east to west side, in front of 546 Hempstead Avenue. The female operator, 56, immediately stopped, dialed 911 and remained at scene. The victim, Irene Zambardino, 85, of Westbury was transported to a local area hospital where she was later pronounced by Dr. Joseph.
 
A brake and safety inspection was conducted and the vehicle was then released to the operator. The investigation is ongoing.
