NCPD: Man Dies After Thrown from Hood of Moving Vehicle, Great Neck Driver in Custody

Manhasset, NY - August 14, 2017 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 8:43 pm in Manhasset.
 
According to detectives, the defendant, Christian Arevalo, 19, of Great Neck, was involved in a dispute with a known 20 year old male victim. The dispute escalated and became physical. Defendant Arevalo entered into his mother’s 2013 Nissan Altima and drove from Manor Drive, Manhasset with the victim jumping on to the motor hood of the Nissan.
 
Arevalo continued to drive the vehicle with the victim holding onto the motor hood. A short time later, the defendant was involved in a vehicular accident with a 2017 Cadillac Sedan on Cumberland Avenue and then collided with a curb. The victim was thrown off the motor hood and struck his head on to the pavement. The victim suffered head, neck, and spine injuries.
 
The victim was transported by a Nassau County Police Ambulance to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 12:39 am on August 12th. Further investigation revealed the defendant was responsible for a Robbery that occurred on Monday, July 17, 2017 in Great Neck. He also violated a Court Order of Protection on Tuesday, May 05, 2017 also in Great Neck.
    
Defendant Christian Arevalo is charged with Manslaughter 2nd degree, Robbery 2nd degree, Criminal Contempt 1st degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree.  He will be arraigned on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
