Nassau Authorities Report Drug Bust in Wantagh; Heroin, Cocaine, Crack, More Recovered

Wantagh, NY - August 13, 2018 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Wantagh man on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 7:40 p.m. in Wantagh.
 
According to Narcotics/Vice Squad detectives, as part of Operation Natalie, Nassau County’s War Against Opioids, detectives from the Long Island Heroin Task Force conducted a lengthy investigation involving several fatal overdoses and numerous community complaints. The investigation led to the arrest of defendant Benji Diskin, 61. Defendant Diskin was arrested without incident at residence on Wantagh Ave in Wantagh. Search warrants for the Wantagh residence and storage facility in Amityville were secured with the assistance of the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.  
 
Recovered were numerous pieces of evidence linking overdoses to the defendant. The defendant did knowingly and unlawfully possess and sell several controlled substances to Nassau and Suffolk Residents. Evidence seized during this investigation believed to be heroin, cocaine, crack, Suboxone, Clonazepam, and packaging items commonly used to sell control substances. Also seized was an undisclosed amount of US currency believed to be proceeds of the defendant’s drug sales. 
 
Defendant Benji Diskin is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substances 2nd Degree, five (5) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree and two (2) counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance.  He will be arraigned on August 12, 2018 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
The Nassau County Police Department reminds the public that as part of Operation Natalie and our Five Prong Approach of Education, Awareness, Enforcement, Diversion and Treatment, we will be continuing with our zero tolerance response to any and all illegal drug activity within the County.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
