Update - August 14, 2014 - Bay beaches are open but closed for swimming, and Fire Island Ocean beaches are open.

All Youth and Senior Citizen, Day and Evening Programs have resumed.

The Hurricane Forum scheduled for tonight, Aug. 14 will remain postponed.

Original Release - Islip, NY – August 13, 2014 – Town of Islip Supervisor Tom Croci has signed an official State of Emergency, under Article 2B of New York State Executive Law, that will allow the Town to obtain crucial goods and services in an expedited manner in order to continue the recovery process from the record rainfall that blanketed the Town over the last 12 hours, with an unprecedented 13.1 inches of rain. This has caused significant flooding and the closure of several roadways, and Supervisor Croci urges residents to stay off all roadways and do their best to refrain from driving as traffic is significant in many areas. Residents can call 631 595-3595 to report flooding and other concerns.

Islip’s Long Island MacArthur Airport remains open and operational, although flights have been delayed until approximately 1:00 p.m. Travelers should call airline carriers directly for details, or visit www.macarthurairport.com.  The Town has also cancelled all of its day and evening Youth and Senior Recreational Programs. Town of Islip ocean beaches on Fire Island will remain closed for today, and Town Bay beaches will be closed tomorrow, per the Suffolk County Health Department.

“All Town personnel and equipment have been dispatched and will work round-the clock to ensure the health, safety and welfare of our residents,” said Supervisor Croci.
