Flash Flood Watch & Hazardous Weather Outlook in Effect for Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch and Hazardous Weather Outlook for Long Island - adding onto the irregular weather Long Islanders have seen all summer season. The Flash Flood Watch is in effect through 6 PM this evening for areas in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Widespread rainfall and thunderstorms could amount to 1 to 3 inches of rain, occurring in a short period of time. With rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, small streams and poor drainage areas will be the cause of flash flooding. The Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect through tonight, with strong thunderstorms this afternoon, strong winds are likely to produce, causing a possible brief isolated tornado.
A Flash Flood Watch is issued due to weather conditions in and near the watch area that are believed to cause flash flooding. The Hazardous Weather Outlook provides a widespread look of possible hazardous weather events.
