Mastic Beach, NY - August 12, 2015 - This past school year, the William Floyd Music Department raised more than $4,500 in student scholarships to benefit graduating seniors who have committed to pursue music as part of their post-secondary education.

“The William Floyd Music Department, with the assistance of student volunteers, raises thousands of dollars each year to benefit students in the form of college scholarships,” said Ryan Feldscher, Lead Music teacher, William Floyd School District. “Events such as the annual Music Faculty Scholarship Concert, which in the past 31 years has raised tens of thousands in scholarships for students, have been instrumental in helping graduating seniors achieve their musical goals.” Other scholarship fundraisers that students and staff collaborate on are the community pancake breakfast, singing valentines and holiday-grams (telegrams).

The William Floyd Music Department has produced such notables as P.J. Cinque (Class of 2005), a graduate of The Juilliard School, who currently performs with the world-renowned San Diego Symphony; Maria D’Amato (Class of 1997), an opera singer with the Metropolitan Opera, who has also performed with the New York City Opera, DiCapo Opera, Opera North and the Sarasota Opera; Grammy Award winner Michael Charzuk (Class of 1981); and Al Fritsch, co-founder of the 1980s band “Drive She Said,” to name just a few.

The 32nd annual Music Faculty Scholarship Concert is scheduled to kick off “Music in Our Schools Month” on March 1, 2016 at William Floyd Middle School where music faculty and student volunteers from across the district will gather once again for a great time and cause.
