Islip Woman Arrested for Possession of Loaded Handgun & DWI

Long Island, NY - August 12, 2015 - On 8/10/15 at 10:33 PM, a Farmingdale Trooper was dispatched to a report of an erratic tan pick-up truck on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near exit 31 (Bethpage Parkway).  The Trooper located the vehicle east of exit 33 (Route 109) and observed the tan Dodge pick-up truck fail to stay in the lanes of travel and also drive onto the shoulder and back onto the roadway.  After stopping the vehicle the Trooper noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and that the driver had bloodshot watery eyes.  The vehicle operator, Susan Vassilev-Gugliotti, age 67, of Islip NY, failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI.  During the sobriety tests, Ms. Vassilev-Gugliotti kept attempting to walk back to her passenger side door but her efforts were stopped by the Trooper.  After placing the defendant under arrest, the Trooper immediately located a loaded handgun inside of her vehicle.

The defendant produced a positive breath sample of .21% BAC.  Ms. Vassilev-Gugliotti was charged with Criminal Possession of Weapon 2nd Degree(C Felony), DWI, and traffic violations.  She was held for arraignment in Suffolk County First District Court.
