Man Arrested for DWI after Crash with Child in Vehicle in Amityville

Amityville, NY - August 10th, 2013 -  Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after being involved in a two-car crash with his child in his car in Amityville today.

Ryan Hannigan was driving a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee when he made a left turn onto oncoming traffic at the intersection of Oak Street and Broadway at 2 p.m. Hannigan crashed into a 34-year-old Copiague man driving a 2007 Nissan Maxima.
 
The Copiague man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, via Amityville Rescue with minor injuries. Hannigan and his three-year-old son were not injured.
 
The Amityville Village Police Department arrested Hannigan, 36, of Lamplighter Lane, Massapequa at the scene. First Squad detectives charged Hannigan with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Passenger 15 Years old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The child was released to a family member.
 
Hannigan is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 11.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
