Man Arrested for Weapon Possession Following ShotSpotter Activation in Bellport

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Bellport man for possession of a handgun following a ShotSpotter activation early this morning.

Bellport, NY - August 10th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Bellport man for possession of a handgun following a ShotSpotter activation early this morning.

Fifth Precinct Police Officers Christopher Quitoni and Michael Robertson were dispatched to Hoffman Avenue in Bellport at 4:42 a.m. following a ShotSpotter notification that indicated a weapon had been fired in the area. The officers located Kevin Crenshaw and another individual walking toward Crenshaw’s home, located at 742 Hoffman Ave. Crenshaw, who is currently on parole, was in possession of a 9mm semiautomatic handgun and arrested.

Fifth Squad detectives charged Crenshaw, 33, with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree. He will be held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 11.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
