Mangano: Huey Lewis And The News To Perform At Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside Theatre

East Meadow, NY - August 8th, 2013 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano has announced that Huey Lewis and the News will be performing at Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre on Saturday, August 17th. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.; admission is free. The concert is sponsored by WCBSFM 101.1.

Huey Lewis and the News is an American pop rock band based in San Francisco, California. They had a number of hit singles during the ‘80s and early ‘90s, totaling 19 top-ten singles across the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary and Mainstream Rock charts. Their greatest success was in the ‘80s with the number-one album, Sports, coupled with a series of highly successful MTV videos. Their worldwide fame expanded when the song “The Power of Love” was featured as a key track in the film Back to the Future (in which Lewis had a cameo appearance), became a number-one hit, and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Current band members include: Huey Lewis – lead vocals, harmonica (1979–); Sean Hopper – keyboards, backing vocals (1979–); Bill Gibson – drums, percussion, backing vocals (1979–); Johnny Colla – rhythm guitar, saxaphone, backing vocals (1979–); Stef Burns: lead guitar, backing vocals (2001–); John Pierce – bass (1995–); Marvin McFadden – trumpet, percussion, backing vocals (1994–); Rob Sudduth: saxophone, backing vocals (1994–); Johnnie Bamont: saxophones (2009–).

Much of the programming at the Lakeside Theatre is made possible through the Nassau County Hotel/Motel Proceeds Grant, which are proceeds from taxes on hotel and motel rooms in Nassau County. Since 2006, Nassau County has received more than ten million dollars from the Hotel/Motel Proceeds Grant, which also has assisted in historic building restoration and other cultural enhancements.

The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre is located near parking fields 6 and 6A in Eisenhower Park. Lakeside Theatre is a venue with no formal seating. Concertgoers are urged to bring folding chairs or blankets. Special accommodations are available for disabled patrons, including reserved parking, easily accessible restrooms and a convenient reserved location on the hill. Assistive hearing devices are also available upon request for the hearing impaired.
