Mount Sinai, NY, August 2013 –On August 9th, 2013, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined the County Executive’s office, elected officials, and the Long Island Farm Bureau (LIFB) for “Celebrate Grown on Long Island Day”. The event was held at the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank and included a one day farmer’s market to bring attention to local farmers, wineries, and seafood.

“I’m happy to join the County Executive in supporting the local agricultural industry,” said Legislator Anker. “Long Island is home to the largest farming community in New York State and many of the farms are family-owned. ‘Celebrate Grown on Long Island Day’ is a wonderful opportunity to support local farming families and strengthen the Long Island economy.”

The event was coordinated by the LIFB. The Bureau works as a grassroots organization to fortify both the local and national agricultural industry. Members of the LIFB work for action on the local, state, and national levels on behalf of Long Island’s farming communities. For more information, or to join the bureau, call 631-727-3777.
