Police Officials: Uniondale Man Busted In Possession Of Drugs, Loaded Handgun

Hewlett, NY - August 7, 2018 - The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Uniondale man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon that occurred on Saturday, August 5, 2018 at 2:22 am in Hewlett.
 
According to detectives, a patrol officer was waived down by a male, 47, who was operating a street sweeper in a parking lot located at 1765 Peninsula Boulevard. The operator was on the phone with 911 regarding a disabled motorist in the lot. The officer called for assistance, approached a Gray 2006 Nissan Altima and observed a male passed out in the driver’s seat. While the engine was running, officers began to knock on the window and shake the car to ensure the male was not suffering from a medical episode. The male woke up and rolled down the driver’s side window. Officers detected a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle appeared confused and unsure of his whereabouts.
 
A thorough investigation was conducted and Donald Young Jr., 33, was found to be in possession of substances believed to be marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine. A loaded handgun was recovered from the defendant’s vehicle. He was arrested without incident.
 
Defendant Young is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, two (2) counts Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, two (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. He was arraigned at First District Court, Hempstead on 08/06/18.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
