CANCELLED - Police Issue Alert For Missing Stony Brook Man Suffering From Dementia

UPDATE - August 8, 2018 - After an extensive search, John Wile was found deceased in the woods north of Research and Development Park off of Stony Brook Road, Stony Brook, this afternoon. There appears to be no-criminality.
 
Members from the following assisted with the search: Suffolk County Police Sixth Precinct, Aviation Section, Canine Section, Stony Brook University Police, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police, Stony Brook Fire Department, Nesconset Fire Department, Nissequogue Fire Department, Setauket Fire Department, St. James Fire Department, Port Jefferson Fire Department and numerous volunteers from the surrounding community.

Stony Brook, NY - August 7, 2018 - The Suffolk County Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for a missing Stony Brook man who suffers from dementia.
 
John Wile left his home, located at 34 Erland Road, for a jog and he was last seen running on Main Street in the Village of Stony Brook at approximately 7:45 a.m.
 
Wile is white, 74 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, approximately 150 pounds, with gray balding hair and has a scar on his head. He was wearing a yellow or blue shirt, with dark-colored shorts and running sneakers.
 
Anyone with information on Wile’s location is asked to contact Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652 or call 911.
 
As a reminder, Silver Alert is a program implemented in Suffolk County that allows local law enforcement to share information with media outlets about individuals with special needs who have been reported missing.
