Assemblywoman Pellegrino Announces Funding For Long Island Public Libraries
Long Island, NY - August 7, 2018 - Assemblywoman Christine Pellegrino (D-Babylon/Islip/Oyster Bay) announced that the North Babylon and West Islip public libraries will receive $90,000 in state aid.
“Public libraries are crucial resources for our communities,” said Assemblywoman Pellegrino, who taught reading in Baldwin public schools for over 18 years. “They not only provide access to books, online resources and vital serviceslike classes and job search assistance, but they also help shape our lives. Libraries foster a love of reading and learning at a young age, and continue to be a resource throughout our lives. This significant boost in funding will help these community hubs thrive for years to come.”
The funding provides $15,000 for North Babylon Public Library to create additional parking spaces and $75,000 for West Islip Public Library to add a new instructional room and reading space.
“These new areas improve upon the library’s ability to provide space for activities and community programs, as well as creating a comfortable environment for independent reading and study, two goals that have become increasingly important in our service plan,” West Islip Public Library director Andrew Hamm said.“These improvements further the ability of community members to utilize their local library more effectively.”
