Woman Arrested for Stealing Tip Jar from Starbucks in Selden

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Selden woman after she stole a tip jar from a coffee shop in Selden.

Selden, NY - August 7th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Selden woman after she stole a tip jar from a coffee shop in Selden.

Noel McPhail entered Starbucks, located at 1251 Middle Country Road, grabbed the plastic tip jar which contained cash, and fled to a wooded area, located in the back of the store at 2:11 p.m. An employee called 911 and provided a description of the suspect which was broadcast over the police radio.  Employees chased McPhail and a Sixth Precinct Crime Section sergeant saw the suspect running across Middle Country Road.

The sergeant followed McPhail, exited the vehicle and with assistance from Sixth Precinct officers, arrested McPhail.

McPhail, 24, of 52 Kings Ave., was charged with Petit Larceny and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. McPhail is scheduled for arraignment today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
