Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash in Medford

Medford, NY - August 7th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a man in Medford today.

Peter Mungo was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe westbound on Jamaica Avenue when the vehicle veered off the road, struck a mailbox and then a tree in front of 267 Jamaica Avenue at 12:45 p.m. Mungo, 20, of Medford, was extricated from the vehicle by Emergency Service Section officers and was transported by Medford Volunteer Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
