Mineola, NY - August 6th, 2013 - Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that a Uniondale man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbing two men at gunpoint in separate incidents approximately 15 minutes apart in October 2010.

Michael Lane, 21, was convicted by a jury of two counts of Robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Robbery in the Second Degree, and two counts of Robbery in the Third Degree on May 6. He was sentenced by Nassau County Judge Alan Honorof.

Rice said that at approximately 9:35 p.m. on October 31, 2010, a male victim was walking to his home in Uniondale when he was confronted by a group of men on the corner of Hempstead Boulevard and Emerson Street. One of those men was Michael Lane, who produced a black handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. The victim handed over his wallet and the group of men fled from the location.

Fifteen minutes later, a second male victim was walking near the corner of Henry and Armond Streets in Uniondale when he was surrounded by a group of men, including Lane. Lane again produced a black handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. The group fled once the victim handed over his wallet. Lane was arrested by officers of the Nassau County Police Department’s First Precinct on November 9, 2010.

Lane was additionally charged with Tampering With a Witness in the Fourth Degree on April 22, 2013 for approaching one of the victim’s homes with a group of men and intimidating him. That case is pending.

“Mr. Lane proved his cowardice when he pulled a gun on two unarmed victims with a group of friends there to back him up,” Rice said. “Intimidating one of the victims he had already robbed only underscores what a danger he is to the community.”

Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Abensur of the County Court Trial Bureau is prosecuting the case. Lane is represented by Valerie Hawkins, Esq.
