Two People Arrested for West Babylon Shooting

West Babylon, NY - August 4th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police have arrested two people for a shooting that injured a man in West Babylon this morning.

Thomas Barbal was standing with his brother, Michael, in front of their home, located at 119 Terrace Ave., when a man driving a 1995 Toyota Celica fired shots from the car window as he drove by at approximately 7:50 a.m.

Thomas Barbal, 20, was shot in the right arm and left leg and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Two suspects were arrested a short time later. First Squad detectives charged Geoffrey Tobin (pictured right), 19, of Denise Drive, North Babylon, with Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm 2nd Degree and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree. Miranda Mugavero, 20, of Phelps Lane, North Babylon, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
