Suffolk SPCA: Middle Island Man Arrested for Allegedly Injuring Female Pit Bull

Middle Island, NY - August 2, 2018 - Detectives with the Suffolk County SPCA  arrested a Middle Island man and charged him with animal cruelty on Tuesday,  July 31, 2018.
 
Emilio Liberato, 37, was charged with one count of cruelty to animals for unjustifiably injuring an 8 year old female pit bull named Ginger, that belonged to his ex-girlfriend, on 5/25/2018. An arrest warrant was issued for Liberato through the NYS Parole Department and he was apprehended on 7/31/2018. SPCA detectives charged Liberato with animal cruelty at the 6th Precinct.
 
Ginger had been rushed into an emergency animals hospital for swelling on her head, bruising on her gums and a tooth that had been knocked out. Her injuries were not life threatening and the dog has since recovered.
 
Liberato is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on October 2, 2018.
 
Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County.  If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
