21-Year-Old Man Suffering Autism Drowns after Jumping into Pool

Manhasset, NY - August 2, 2016 - Homicide Squad detectives report the accidental death of a male during an incident that occurred on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 4:04 pm in Manhasset.

According to detectives, a 21 year old male, who suffered from autism, while on the playground area with other roommates of the Nassau County Children’s Services Housing facility, 21 The Terrace, Manhasset, climbed over a PVC fence and entered the private property of a Plandome Road residence which is adjacent to the facilities playground. While on the property, the 21 year old then jumped into a built in pool and was found minutes later at the bottom by the facility staff. After jumping into the pool, bringing him to the surface and beginning CPR, 911 was called.

Upon police and ambulance arrival, the victim was transported to an area hospital to continue life saving measures.

At 5:00 pm the 21 year old was pronounced deceased by a staff physician.

The victim’s name is being withheld at this time and the investigation into this incident continues.
