Albany, NY - August 2, 2013 - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on August 6, 2013 in honor of a World War II soldier from Frankfort.

Army Sgt. Dominick Licari was last heard from in 1944, when the A-20G Havoc Bomber on which he was a gunner crashed into a mountainside in New Guinea. He joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1942. After numerous search efforts spanning multiple decades, Sgt. Licari’s remains were recently identified by the U.S. military and are being returned to New York today.

“After so many years abroad, the remains of Sgt. Licari are finally coming home,” Governor Cuomo said. “I proudly join with all New Yorkers in remembering his service to our country with gratitude, and offer my thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of other service members who remain unaccounted for.”

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state's service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
