One man is dead and another two are injured after a single-engine plane that had taken off from Albany International Airport crash-landed in Rhode Island on Wednesday, July 30, reports say.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., a Piper Cherokee Archer aircraft crashed into a wooded area after it overshot a runway during a landing — its third attempt in a row — at Block Island State Airport, according to officials from the North Shoreham Police Department.

The three occupants of the crashed plane — all of which were New York residents — were extracted from the wreckage by first responders. However, while en route to Rhode Island Hospital, one of the crash victims, a 77 year-old man, passed away from his injuries. The other two victims, officials say, are expected to live.

The plane was reportedly owned by the Albany-based Condair Flyers Flying Club.

Additional details, including the identity of the victims and the purported cause for the crash, are currently unknown.

The crash is currently being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.
