Two Pedestrians Struck by Cargo Van in Mastic Beach, One Died of His Injuries

Mastic Beach, NY - July 30, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Mastic Beach last night.

Thomas Pietsch was operating his 1994 Ford E-250 cargo van southbound on Mastic Road, just south of Riverside Avenue when he struck two pedestrians in the roadway. The pedestrians, Billie Benetatos and Brett Locke were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue by Mastic Beach Ambulance. Benetatos, 35, of Mastic, died from his injuries. Locke, 57, of Mastic, was treated for a broken clavicle. Pietsch, 49, of Mastic Beach, was not injured and stayed at the scene.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing.
