Calverton, NY - July 30, 2015 - The Central Pine Barrens Commission will hold a second public hearing on the Kent Animal Shelter’s site plan application during its monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 19 at 3PM at Brookhaven Town Hall.

“The approval of the Central Pine Barrens Commission is a key and final authority on whether the Kent Animal Shelter may rebuild,” said Pamela Green, Kent Animal Shelter’s Executive Director who is celebrating 30 years this year at the organization’s helm. “The existing structures have reached a critical stage of deterioration to the extent that the shelter may have to cease to exist.”

The Kent Animal Shelter has prepared site plans and otherwise gotten approvals from all other required agencies.

Environmental activist Richard Amper of the Pine Barrens Society is the main opponent of the shelter site plan application, citing potential precedent-setting and questioning the need for the animal shelter. He requested and was granted a second public hearing.
