Northwell Health said that five of their nurses have answered the call from Governor Andrew Cuomo to help out in other states as they battle COVID-19. Four of the nurses are from North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and one is from Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park.

The five nurses who volunteered to travel to Houston are, Kristine Chan, RN, from North Shore University Hospital, Lauren Ann Henry, RN, from Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Anjanette Rosario, RN, from North Shore University Hospital, Shiney Paul, RN, from North Shore University Hospital, and Timothy Verhey, RN, from North Shore University Hospital.

The volunteers will be setting up satellite testing sites in underserved communities. They will be performing swabs and registering those who come to the site.

“Most importantly, they are providing education about the importance of wearing masks, quarantining if symptomatic or testing positive, proper hand hygiene and maintaining social distancing,” said Andrew Roberts, project manager for emergency deployment at Northwell. “These five people left their homes, their families, and their friends…we are so grateful to them and so proud.”

The nurses said they felt the need to give back after New York was hit especially hard by the pandemic.

“We came down here together as a team,” said Shiney Paul, the RN from North Shore University Hospital. “We felt it was our time to give back to the communities that are going through this now. It’s been an honor to work with Governor Cuomo’s team and my co-workers.”
