Three-Year-Old Pedestrian Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash in Wyandanch

Wyandanch, NY - July 26th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a three-year-old pedestrian was injured, in Wyandanch this afternoon.

Derrick Mercer was driving his 2004 Dodge Durango northbound on N. 20th St., when he struck a three-year-old girl that was attempting to cross the road in front of house 137 at 2:45 p.m. The girl was outside with older family members at the time of the crash.
 
The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with a broken femur. She is currently in stable condition.
 
Mercer, 41, of Washington Avenue, Wyandanch was not injured.
 
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The crash appears non-criminal.
 
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
