Two Blue Point Men Arrested in Connection with Several Burglaries

Blue Point, NY - July 25th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police have arrested two men in connection with several residential burglaries that occurred in Blue Point during the past week.

A resident of Oakwood Drive in Blue Point called 911 on July 24 at approximately 2:10 p.m. after discovering their home had been burglarized. Fifth Squad Special Operations Team detectives, who were conducting directed patrol due to these recent burglaries, received a description of the suspects provided by witnesses. The detectives were able to locate and arrest the suspects at their home a short time later.

Fifth Squad detectives charged Edward Hines III, 33, and Christopher Breitkopf, 40, both of Montauk Highway, Blue Point, with Burglary 2nd Degree for the burglary on Oakwood Avenue.

Through further investigation, detectives discovered Hines III was responsible for four more residential burglaries and one attempted burglary, all occurring in Blue Point between July 17th and July 24th. Hines III was additionally charged with four counts of Burglary 2nd Degree and one count of Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree.

Hines III and Breitkopf were held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and were scheduled for arraignment today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
